President Masoud Barzani receives the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations

President Masoud Barzani received UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Iraq Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert at the meeting, the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy expressed her condolences to President Barzani on the 39th anniversary of the genocide of the Barzanis and stressed that she will make every effort to recognize this crime as genocide.

 The meeting also exchanged views on the political situation in Iraq and the latest developments and stressed that the constitution should be the basis of understanding to resolve the problems.

The elections in the Kurdistan Region were another topic of the meeting and President Barzani stressed that the obstacles to the elections must be removed and the elections must be held as soon as possible and the rights of ethnic and religious communities must be protected.  For this purpose, President Barzani expressed that we are ready to hold elections anytime.
