During the meeting, Mr. Siwaily briefed the Polish Consul General on the latest regional developments and changes, as well as the position of President Barzani and the Kurdistan Democratic Party. Another part of the meeting focused on enhancing cooperation and coordination to further advance political, economic, commercial, and academic relations.
Regional security issues, particularly developments in Syria and Rojava, were central topics of discussion. Both sides emphasized the importance of continued international support to preserve stability and address ongoing challenges, including the management of detained ISIS members and preventing the resurgence of terrorist armed groups that pose threats to regional, European, and global security. The tensions between the United States and Iran, and their impacts on Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and the wider world, were also discussed, with hope expressed that dialogue would lead to mutual understanding.
Political developments between Baghdad and Erbil were also discussed, including ongoing efforts to overcome obstacles to forming both the Kurdistan Regional Government and the federal government, and to advance political stability. Mr. Siwaily reiterated President Barzani’s position that Iraq needs an inclusive, balanced, and consensus-based government capable of serving all Iraqi citizens and strengthening the democratic and development process.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides stressed the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation to support peace, security, and economic development in the region. Consul General Mr. Maciej Zajdel expressed his appreciation and reaffirmed his country’s support for the Kurdistan Region and regional stability. The KDP Foreign Relations Office also reiterated its readiness to cooperate in ensuring the success of the new Consul General and the Consulate.
