Relations between Kurdistan and Poland
Pirmam, 7 May 2018 The Head of the Foreign Relations Office of Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Mr. Hoshyar Siwaily received H.E. Mrs. Beata Pęksa, the ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Iraq and Mr. Dominik Musiał, the Polish Consul and Head of Mission of the Republic of Poland to the Kurdistan Region.
Mr. Siwaily welcomed the distinguished visitors and highlighted the historic relations between the people of Kurdistan and the people of Poland, and thanked the Polish government for supporting the region with the defeat of ISIS.
The Ambassador, in return, commented on the historic relations between the two nations, dating back to 1940’s, in which Polish forces were stationed in the Kurdistan Region during WWII and informed Mr. Siwaily about their positive experience with the inhabitants of the Region.
The Ambassador also reiterated her governments’ commitment to supporting the Kurdistan Region in various spheres, such as further developing the oil refinery sector, agriculture, security and completely destroying ISIS and radical ideologies.
Mr. Siwaily thanked the Ambassador and the Consul, and informed them about a forthcoming official visit to Poland and looks to further strengthen relations with the people and government of Poland.
The KDP Foreign Relations Office has been pleased to participate in the various activities which took place in Erbil over the last few years to strengthen relations, including the official opening of the Consulate, the annual Flag Day of the Republic of Poland, various official visits and meetings.
