Hawrami: A delegation from Kurdistan will visit Baghdad to discuss the referendum

Hemin Hawrami said that the impending application for the impending referendum will be in direct consultations with the central government in Baghdad, and a delegation for this purpose will visit the Iraqi capital.

Mr Hawrami said during a meeting with Ms Zeynab Aliyeva, Senior Desk Officer at Canadian Global Affairs, in the case of an agreement with the Iraqi government to abide by the terms of the Constitution and conventions and form a genuine partnership between the components of Iraq when permission is not possible to hold the referendum.

The Head of KDP’s Foreign Relations Office said in the event of a failure to reach agreements with the Iraqi counterparts, there will be a referendum where the Kurds will ultimately decide on their future away from Iraq.

In another aspect of the meeting, Mr Hawrami stressed on the potential liberation of Mosul which for over two years has been under the brutal occupation from the terrorist organisation Islamic State. He said there are administrative agreements yet to be reached on the future of the Iraqi city after its liberation.

For her part, Ms Aliyeva expressed her pleasure for the meeting and wished for further progress of the democratic experience in Kurdistan.
