Hemin Hawrami received the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General in Iraq, Gyorgy Busztin, and his accompanying delegation for talks that primarily focused on the Kurds relations with Iraq's central government and other areas of mutual interest.
The Head of KDP's Foreign Relations Office emphasised early on the harsh treatment of former Iraqi regimes against the Kurds where they have experienced mass atrocities such as chemical attacks and the genocide and added this political struggle is ongoing as the Iraqi government is yet to lift the suspension of civil servant salaries and redistribute shares of oil revenue to the KRG and it has shown a lack of support for the Peshmerga forces which is the only force on the ground fighting against terrorism in large swathes of northern Iraq.
Mr Hawrami confirmed that a high-level Kurdish delegation will be visiting Baghdad for talks on forming a new mechanism between the two sides.
For his part, Mr Gyorgy thanked the KDP leadership and praised the tolerance of the Kurdish people as they host a very large number of refugees and displaced. He added that the UN wishes to express their admiration for their role before extending praise to the Peshmerga's courage.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides discussed matters of general interest and the current situation in the Kurdistan Region.
