Russian Consul General reassures ongoing support for Kurdistan

Hemin Hawrami received the Russian Consul General to Erbil Evgeny Arzhantsev at the KDP's Foreign Relations Office for talks on the current bilateral relations with the Kurdistan Region and the latest political and military developments.

Mr Arzhantsev reiterated his country's commitment to supporting the Kurds in its war against Islamic State terrorists that Russia will continue to supply military equipment in addition to any necessary humanitarian aid. He expressed praise for the Kurdish Peshmerga forces who have been fighting against IS extremists for over two years, while congratulating the KDP on the 70th anniversary of its founding.

Mr Hawrami stressed on "enhanced ties" between Kurdistan and Russia, emphasising the importance of stability in their diplomatic relations.

The meeting concluded with Mr Hawrami thanking the Russian government and its people for their valuable support and touched on the historical relations between the two sides. He briefed Mr Arzhantsev on the situation on the region and said the KDP is adamant on resolving differences through peaceful dialogue.
