China strives for better diplomatic relations with Kurdistan

Hemin Hawrami received the Chinese Deputy Consul General to Erbil, Mr Jian Fangning., and his accompanying delegation to discuss pressing issues on the latest regional developments in Kurdistan.

During the meeting, both sides focused on upgrading ties to a more comprehensive level where Mr Fangning said that his country underlines the importance of relations China attaches to the Kurdistan Region. Mr Hawrami expressed appreciation toward the Chinese government for supporting the Kurds during their plight over the past couple of years as a result of war against terrorists. He reflected on the rights of the people of Kurdistan to choose their destiny as they embark on a national referendum.

Speaking on the political struggles within the region and Iraq, Mr Hawrami, Head of KDP's Foreign Relations Office, said that his party always look to resolve differences via peaceful dialogue, making reference to rising tensions with other political parties and the central government in Baghdad.

For his part, Mr Fangning thanked the FRO for their role in promoting ties with other countries and offered his congratulations on the founding anniversary of the KDP, praising its commitment to democracy and stability.
