Leader of Britain's Labour Party: I support the Kurds

By official invitation from the United Kingdom's Labour Party, Sherko Habeb, member of Kurdistan Democratic Party's Foreign Relations Office and Head of Communications, participated at their annual conference held in Liverpool from 25-28 September.

At the conference, the Shadow Foreign Secretary Emily Thornberry held a seminar where delegates discussed several topics relating to British affairs and its diplomatic ties. She expressed concerns about UK's attitude toward the Middle East, saying that they cannot talk about democracy while there is air bombing campaigns in the region as these two are conflicting subjects.

Mr Habeb asked Ms Thornberry on the new policy of the Labour Party's role in the Middle East after the crisis in Iraq, Syria and Yemen, whether there will be a new political roadmap in the region and if it will see the emergence of new states before asking about the Kurdish issues. Ms Thornberry said the Iraqi issue is "complex without any answer explicitly."

Mr Habeb also met with the leader of the British Labour Party, Rt Hon Jeremy Corbyn, expressed the greetings of President Barzani and the leadership of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, and asked his support for Kurdish rights and as an old friend of the Kurdish people. He said, "I love the Kurds and I support Kurdish rights," and extended his gratitude to President Barzani and the leadership of the KDP, also thanked the representative of the KDP who attended the conference.

On the sidelines of the conference the KDP FRO representative met with some of international delegations and Member of Parliament, discussing the Kurdish issue and the relations between Erbil and Bagdad.
