Hawrami: Liberation of Mosul will be beginning of social coexistence and confidence-building

Hemin Hawrami praised the European Union for the aid they provide to the people of Kurdistan during the conflict against the so-called Islamic State and expressed appreciation on behalf of the Kurdistan Democratic Party while meeting Lars Adaktusson, member of the Human Rights Committee at the EU Parliament.

Mr Hawrami, Head of KDP's Foreign Relations Office, highlighted on the latest developments in the battle for Mosul, Iraq's second largest city which has been under IS occupation for over two years, as Peshmerga with Iraqi forces and coalition forces have begun the offensive to reclaim the city. He said that liberating Mosul will bring peaceful coexistence and by eradicating IS from Iraq is also beneficial to the wider regions.

For his part, Mr Adaktusson praised the role of Kurdistan Region which has hosted an enormous number of refugees and displaced people at a time when the region is going through a delicate phase, also thanked the Peshmerga for great victories against Islamic extremists. He stressed for more cooperation and coordination between Kurdistan and Europe and urged members of the EU for further support.
