Kurdistan Region President discusses Mosul operation with US Secretary of Defence

During a telephone conversation with President of Kurdistan Region Massoud Barzani, the US Defence Secretary Ashton Carter expressed satisfaction of the great victories achieved by the Peshmerga forces on the front line of the war against Islamic State terrorists. He gave his congratulations for the occasion and praised the level of coordination and cooperation of joint-military action between the Peshmerga and the Iraqi army forces in the battle to liberate Mosul.

The two sides stressed the importance of ongoing commitment between international coalition forces and Peshmerga, with the addition of the Iraqi army.

They exchanged views on the steps to implement the plan edit Mosul and its environs and the stages of the fighting, described by both sides as successful.

For his part, President Barzani extended his thanks and appreciation to the people and the United States Army, which provided support for the Peshmerga forces in the war against terrorism, the two parties and hoped that this battle ends in victory against the terrorist organisation.
