In a meeting with the newly-appointed Japanese Consul General to Kurdistan, Katsumi Moriyasu, Hemin Hawrami highlighted the appreciation of the Kurdish administration for Japan's role in supporting the Kurds and said he hoped that both sides can encourage future positive relations.
The Head of Kurdistan Democratic Party's Foreign Relations Office received the Japanese delegation with efforts to coordinate friendship, where Mr Moriyasu said his country attached a relationship with Kurdistan as great importance, and that friendly relations have developed in a sustainable manner bearing political mutual trust.
Mr Hawrami congratulated Mr Moriyasu on his new role as Japan has formally established consular services in the Kurdistan region, wishing him success.
They exchanged views on the current political and military situation, where Mr Hawrami briefed on the latest events surrounding the region and discussed areas of mutual interest.
For his part, the Japanese consul expressed delight at the formal launch of a consulate in Kurdistan, stressing on the vitality of relations between the two sides and affirmed his country's ongoing support to the people of the region. He added praise on the courageous efforts of Peshmerga forces in fighting against extremists Islamic fundamentalists, hoping for peace and continued stability.
