The Middle East Research Institute organized a discussion on Turkish Foreign Policy

Under the title (The Turkish Referendum and its Foreign policy impacts) and as part of their ongoing activities, MERI organized a round table discussion on the  external implications of the constitutional referendum which was held on 16th April 2017. Attended by Mr. Hoshyar Siwaily KDP’s Head of Foreign Relations, and a number of distinguished speakers including the Chief of Staff of the Presidential Council, Head of EU liaison Mission in Erbil and a number of Consul Generals took part in the analysis and discussions. The Consul General of the Republic of Turkey outlined the importance of the constitutional amendments, which will come into effect in 2019, and their implications on the future internal and foreign policies and developments of the Turkish State. Different views from the international, EU and Regional perspectives were expressed in an open and friendly atmosphere.

At the end of the meeting, the participants emphasized the importance of such gatherings and hoped that MERI would continue organizing such discussions to encourage constructive dialogue to facilitate a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing Turkey and the wider Region.
