President of Kurdistan-Region Massoud Barzani met with Canada’s Ambassador to Iraq Mr Mark Gwozdecky for talks on establishing consular services in Erbil.
At the beginning of their meeting, Ambassador Gwozdecky thanked President Barzani for providing the opportunity to meet him, adding his delight of the progress in Kurdistan and praising the role of the region in dealing with the Iraqi crisis situation with wisdom and courage.
Ambassador Gwozdecky admitted his country's readiness to open a Consulate in the region, revealing plans to contribute to the reconstruction of Kurdistan. He emphasized on the role of the Kurdistan Regional Government and its citizens in helping Iraqis who were forced to leave their homes and live in Kurdistan.
President Barzani said he was pleased with Canada's permanent office in Erbil and that the Kurdistan-Region is ready to strengthen relations with the Canadian Government in political and economic aspects; emphasizing the relationship between democratic development and respect for human rights, referring to the lack of interest from the international community in the issue of Syrian refugees in Kurdistan.
