President Barzani in Moscow discusses Syrian crisis and terrorist threats

Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani on his official two-day visit to Moscow discussed the ongoing crisis in Syria, various political and economic issues in an exclusive interview with Voice of Russia. President Barzani, interviewed by Voice of Russia’s political radio broadcaster Yelena Soponana on Wednesday said, “We will examine the Syrian crisis in our meeting with the Russian leadership who during our conversations made observations on methods to solve this crisis.” Mr Barzani expressed his gratitude toward the Russian people for helping the Kurds in their difficult time in modern history, stating, “I thank the Russian people very much for the historical relationship between Russia and Kurdistan. They deeply welcomed my father (late Mulla Mustafa Barzani) and his comrades during the last mid-century. We want to build on this relationship.” The president also said that the most serious regional problems now are Syrian conflict and the strained relations between Sunnis and Shiites, as well as terrorist threats. He said: "There are many international problems that cannot be nested." Barzani: "We cannot fight terrorism using military advantage, the use of police-only and security forces alone will not succeed, but must make economic and political reforms as well as well as solving social problems.
