President Barzani receives a high-level US delegation

President Masoud Barzani received a high-level US delegation comprising Deputy Assistant to the President and White House Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa Brett McGurk and Special Presidential Coordinator for Global Infrastructure and Energy Security Amos Hochstein and U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Alina Romanowski and a number of US State Department advisers.

 The meeting discussed the political situation in Iraq and relations between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad, and stressed the need to resolve the problems between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad, and the importance of the role of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in overcoming energy challenges.

 The situation in the Kurdistan Region was another topic of the meeting and President Barzani stressed that a clean and fair election should be held in the Kurdistan Region this year and no excuse for postponing the elections will be accepted.  President Barzani expressed his desire to continue the meetings and coordination between the political parties in order to overcome the challenges and support the Kurdistan Regional Government.  Regarding the reforms of the Kurdistan Peshmerga forces, President Barzani reiterated his support for the continuation of these reforms.

 The political situation in the region and the threat of terrorism were another topic of the meeting and the guest delegation stressed the importance of security and stability in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
