During the meeting, which also included German Consul General in Erbil, Mr. Albrecht von Witke, President Barzani expressed his gratitude for Germany's and the European Union's support in upholding the constitutional status of the Kurdistan Region.
President Barzani emphasized that the best solution for the relationship between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government lies in returning to the principles of consensus, balance, and partnership. He expressed the importance of the implementation of the constitution and stressed while we have not requested anything beyond the constitutional framework, we will not accept anything less than what the constitution guarantees for the people and the Kurdistan Region. Regarding steps to form the new government, President Barzani stated that following the meeting between the political bureaus of the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, there is now a clearer understanding regarding the formation of the new cabinet. He expressed hope that the new government will be established before the elections for the Iraqi Council of Representatives.
The German Ambassador expressed gratitude to President Barzani for his contributions and reiterated Germany's and other European countries' support for the constitutional status of the Kurdistan Region. She emphasized that the presence of numerous consulates in the region sends a strong message about the need to protect it.
The Ambassador highlighted the Kurdistan Region's achievements in developing economic infrastructure, maintaining peace, and stability, expressing hope that these successes would be replicated in other areas of Iraq. She also wished for the exemplary services provided in the Kurdistan Region, particularly regarding water and electricity, to be implemented throughout Iraq for the benefit of its citizens.
Exchanging views on the latest developments in the region and Iraq, as well as the development of relations between the Kurdistan Region and Germany were also other topics of the meeting.
