We consider this occasion as an opportunity to emphasize the deep-rooted Kurdish and national path of our party, position and initiatives to hold the elections for the six term of the Kurdistan Parliament within its legal deadline.

Message of the Political Bureau of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) on the occasion of the 47th anniversary of the May Revolution

The outbreak of the May Revolution led by the Immortal Barzani and the leadership of our Party on May 26, 1976 is considered an important and new stage in the political and revolutionary struggle of the movement.

The Revolution at that time and after the comprehensive conspiracy against the Great September Revolution had a great impact on our national liberation movement, because it proved that the roots of the will and courage of our people will not be destroyed . 
The May Revolution created the ground for a new situation of struggle and continuity, and had a clear and righteous message to fight against an oppressive and dictatorial regime.

The progressive May Revolution was a continuation of the Great September Revolution, so it had a great resonance among the masses of Kurdistan cities and towns. When the Iraqi government failed to solve the Kurdish problem and retreated, the May Revolution justified the revolutionary and popular struggle of our people.

On the other hand, the May Revolution as an important event moved the role and weight of the liberation movement to a more advanced political stage so that the revolutionary movement can play its proper role as an influential and decisive force on the domestic and international political arena.
The main goal and strategy of our party leadership was to move towards a bright and productive future, which included the embodiment of the national identity and recognition of the national rights of the Kurdish people. The outcome was the glorious uprising of our People on 5 March 1991 and The formation of the Kurdistan government and parliament, which were achieved with the blood of the martyrs.

We consider this occasion as an opportunity to emphasize the deep-rooted Kurdish and national path of our party and also our party's position, efforts and initiatives to hold the elections for the six term of the Kurdistan Parliament within its legal deadline. The official statement of our Political Bureau meeting on January 18, 2023 clearly stated that the electoral law should be amended, so all parties should take practical steps to hold elections on schedule. We also emphasize our commitment to the message of President Barzani, which he addressed to all parties at the opening ceremony of the Barzani National Memorial, and we continue to normalize relations in order to reorganise the Kurdistani house with all Kurdish forces and parties.

On the occasion of the May Revolution, we warmly congratulate the loyal  People of Kurdistan . We pay tribute to the martyrs of the Kurdish liberation and independence movement.
