President Barzani receives Consul General of India in Erbil

President Masoud Barzani received Mr. Madan Gopal, Consul General of India in Erbil, in Salahaddin on Thursday.

The meeting discussed the political situation in Iraq and the region and the areas that can be worked on in promoting relations between the Kurdistan Region and India. The Indian Consul in Erbil called for the development of relations between the two countries in the fields of human, cultural, technological and medical capacity building.

President Barzani thanked the great Indian leaders such as Gandhi and Nehru for their role in supporting the oppressed nations and peace and unity in the world and said the Kurdish people have special respect for the Indian people and the culture of pluralism and coexistence of India. In another part of the meeting, President Barzani briefed the participants on the history of the Kurdish people's struggle and the Indian Consul praised the role and struggle of the Peshmerga and the Kurdish people for freedom and fighting terrorism.
