President Masoud Barzani received Yann Braem, Consul General of France in Erbil. The French consul, while pointing to the importance of the elections in the Kurdistan Region, said that his country is in favor of a strong and stable Kurdistan Region and resolving the disputes and differences between the political parties in the region through dialogue. He also expressed his country's readiness to assist the Kurdistan Region in overcoming political crises and resolving problems with the Federal Iraqi Government.
President Barzani praised the role of France in supporting the cause of the people of Kurdistan and described the relations between the people of Kurdistan and the French people as historical and unprecedented. President Barzani said that the KDP has been the founder of legitimacy and elections in the region. For two years, the KDP made every effort to hold elections on time, but the elections were prevented and they resorted to external interference and Federal Court to stopp a clean and fair election. Depriving ethnic and religious components of the elections, depriving hundreds of thousands of voters of voting, depriving Halabja of the real number of seats and imposing improper measures in the elections, make the elections do not represent the true voice of the people of Kurdistan. President Barzani said that the KDP is in favor of holding clean and free elections without interference and preplanning . The KDP’s stand was to prevent the conspiracy to take over the will of the people of Kurdistan from succeeding.
In another part of the meeting, President Barzani considered it necessary to resolve all the technical shortcomings and constitutional and legal violations and the will and true voice of the people of Kurdistan to prevail away from conspiracies and preplanned results. He called on the international community to help monitor and guarantee free and genuine elections that serve the legitimacy and genuine voice of the people of Kurdistan.
