President Barzani receives Foreign Minister of France

President Masoud Barzani received French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot in Salahaddin on Wednesday, 23 April 2025.

During the meeting, which was attended by Ambassador Patrick Dorrel, French Ambassador to Iraq and Mr. Yann Braem, French Consul General in Erbil, the French Foreign Minister thanked President Barzani for the welcome and stressed the friendship between the People of Kurdistan and the People of France. For his part, President Barzani thanked the French people and government for their support to the People of Kurdistan in times of need.

The meeting also discussed the internal situation in the Kurdistan Region and the need to form a new cabinet as soon as possible. An overview was presented to the relations between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad, the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections, as well as the situation in the region and Syria.

Regarding the situation in Syria and the future of the Kurds in the country, emphasis was made on the success of efforts for dialogue, mediation and unity between the Kurdish parties in Syria. The French Foreign Minister appreciated the role of President Barzani in coordinating efforts and bringing the Kurdish parties in Syria closer together.

On the peace process in Turkey, President Barzani praised the steps and efforts for a peaceful solution in Turkey and said that the Kurdistan Region is always ready and supports all efforts to bring the peace process in Turkey to a successful conclusion.

At the end of the meeting, the French Foreign Minister officially invited President Barzani to visit Paris and attend the unveiling ceremony of a place to honor the sacrifices of the Kurdistan Peshmerga forces in the fight against terrorists in a park in Paris.
