During the meeting, which was also attended by Mr. Steve Bittner, the US Consul General in Erbil, the US Ambassador congratulated President Barzani on the success of the Kurdistan Parliament elections held on October 20, stressing that organizing the Kurdistan Parliament elections in a democratic and peaceful atmosphere, in light of the tensions the region is going through, reflects the bright image of the Kurdistan Region to everyone.
For his part, President Barzani expressed his thanks to the international community and the Independent High Electoral Commission for their prominent role in the success of the Kurdistan Parliament elections; despite the presence of a number of technical problems that occurred during the process. In another aspect of the meeting, the steps to form the new government in the region and the negotiations between the political parties were discussed, where President Barzani indicated that the Kurdistan Democratic Party has formed a team to negotiate with the other parties on the formation of the next government and determining its agenda, and stressed that the Kurdistan Democratic Party does not have a "veto" on any party. The meeting also highlighted the political and security situations in the region, the latest developments in the Middle East, and exchanged views and opinions on the political process in Iraq and the election of a new speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives.
