August 3, 2025
As we mark eleven years since the Yazidi Genocide, we stand in solemn solidarity with the survivors, honoring their resilience in the face of unimaginable brutality. The memory of those lost and the suffering endured must never fade.
The systematic extermination, enslavement, and displacement of the Yazidi people by ISIS was not just a war crime—it was a calculated act of genocide, driven by hatred for the Yazidis’ Kurdish identity and ancient faith. These atrocities represent one of the darkest chapters in modern history.
We unequivocally condemn the barbaric crimes inflicted upon the Yazidi community. The perpetrators—including ISIS leaders and their collaborators—must be brought to justice through international mechanisms such as the International Criminal Court. Justice delayed is justice denied.
On this 11th anniversary, we urgently call for the full implementation of the Sinjar Agreement, signed in 2020 between the Iraqi Federal Government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). This agreement is key to restoring governance, security, and reconstruction in the region. The Iraqi government must uphold its responsibilities—both legal and moral—to ensure the return of Yazidis and other displaced communities to their ancestral lands with dignity and safety.
We also call on the international community to support both the Iraqi government and the KRG in ensuring justice is served, perpetrators are held accountable, and the necessary conditions are created for Yazidis to return home. This includes reconstruction, security guarantees, and meaningful compensation for the profound losses and destruction they endured.
The federal government must also cooperate with the Kurdistan Regional Government to:
● Ensure safe, voluntary return of Yazidis and other minorities to Sinjar and surrounding areas.
● Provide security, reconstruction, and basic services as outlined in the Sinjar Agreement.
● Deliver financial compensation for the physical and psychological damages suffered.
● Create mechanisms that guarantee such atrocities never happen again.
Let us not forget that Christians and other vulnerable components of Iraqi society also suffered immensely at the hands of ISIS. Their pain, too, demands recognition, justice, and protection.
To honor the victims and support the survivors, we reaffirm our broader calls for:
● Amplifying Yazidi voices, and preserving their cultural and spiritual heritage.
● Global education on religious pluralism to combat extremism and hate.
● Stronger international action to dismantle terrorist networks and prevent their resurgence.
The international community must do more than express sympathy—it must act. Let August 3 serve not only as a day of remembrance, but as a call to action. No more silence. No more impunity.
Let us stand united in the promise: Never Again—for the Yazidis, for Iraq, and for all humanity.
