Hemin Hawrami emphasised on the framework of the United Nations in Kurdistan while the region is hosting around two million refugees and a vast amount of internally displaced people from Syria and Iraq during a meeting with the new head of UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), Mr Masaaki Watanabe, in Erbil.
Mr Hawrami gave his own perception to the financial hardship facing the Kurdistan region, that while it is already placed with a weighty burden of hosting a huge number of refugees and IDPs, they require additional assistance and called on the UN to provide more support.
For his part, Mr Watanabe thanked the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and expressed admiration of the people for preserving democracy and peace. On the subject of IDPs, he said that the UN will rally on members to make adequate preparation to assist with the colossal issues. On the current crisis gripping Kurdistan, the Head of KDP's Foreign Relations Office touched on the proposals made by President Massoud Barzani to the Kurdish parties to resolve these issues, pointing out that the KDP is consistent on resolving the crisis through dialogue and democratic foundations.
He wished success for Mr Watanabe as he commences his new role in the Kurdistan region, also stating that the KDP has his full support and cooperation.
