Hawrami receives new Italian consul general to Erbil

In two separate meetings with the Italian consul general to Erbil, Dr Alessandra di Pippo and the head of political section at the British Consulate, Plica Bahseen, Hemin Hawrami briefed on the latest political and military developments in the Kurdistan region.

Kurdistan Democratic Party’s Head of Foreign Relations Office reflected on the outstanding issues and rising tensions between Erbil and the central government in Baghdad, the economic challenges facing the region, the crisis in Syria, and the military progress where the Peshmerga forces are fighting against Islamic State terrorist organisation.

Mr Hawrami highlighted the victories by Peshmerga forces, as they are successfully scoring a number of victories in recapturing lost ground. Speaking about the issues between the KRG and Baghdad, he said that both sides should aim to resolve their disputes through peaceful dialogue and added that this is the preferred route of the KDP.

Both sides emphasised on bilateral relations and spoke of ways of enhancing diplomatic ties. For her part, Dr di Pippo said her country and the European community appreciates the role of Kurdistan region and the manner in which it has taken care of the huge number of refugees and internally displaced people.
