Hemin Hawrami, Head of Kurdistan Democratic Party's Foreign Relations Office and his accompanying delegation visited the United States Consular Office in Erbil for a round of talks discussing the latest political and military situation in the region.
Received by Consul General Matthias Mitman and his consular staff, they focused on the Kurdistan region's challenges facing the financial crisis, the fight against terrorist organisation Islamic State and Mr Hawrami's recent diplomatic trip to the US.
Mr Hawrami gave his overview of the current situation in the region stating that assistance from the international community is needed to overcome the implications, particularly the expertise and skills to implement reforms. He emphasised on the current good-standing relations between Kurdistan and the US, lauding their role in strengthening diplomatic ties before reflecting on the impending Kurdish referendum adding that the Kurds have a right to live as free as any other independent nation.
For his part, Mr Mitman reaffirmed his country’s support to the Kurdistan Region in military, humanitarian and economic areas to help overcome the challenges facing the region, and noted the role in offering military aid for Peshmerga forces in the fight against ISIS. He expressed praise for the victories achieved by Peshmerga.
