The Chancellor and Head of Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC) has said the newly established American University of Duhok will have an active role in the preparation of future leaders in Kurdistan.
Delivering his opening speech at the ceremony, Masrour Barzani said he "recalled the day of Duhok's uprising in 1991," adding "we find ourselves here today to establish an American University, which will open doors to a better future in Kurdistan."
Mr Barzani also spoke of his grandfather, General Mulla Mustafa Barzani, who devoted his life to make democratic progress in Kurdistan and exerted his admiration the university's building is named after him.
He concluded his speech by mentioning that the construction of the university was came at a difficult time in Kurdistan as the domestic situation turned unpleasant after Peshmerga forces were engaged in combat with extremists throughout the past 2 years.
The American University (AUDK) was founded in Dohuk in 2014, and accepted the first batch of students in the academic year 2014-2015.
