Nechirvan Barzani: We will succeed in overcoming this difficult phase

Speaking at the opening of the American University at a ceremony in Duhok on Monday, the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region Nechirvan Barzani said the provincial government has managed the establishment of 13 universities adding that the number of students in the region reached 94,70, pointing out that this university will be a scientific and academic centre in Kurdistan.

Regarding the internal situation and the economic crisis in Kurdistan, Mr Barzani said. "As a result of wars against Kurdistan, the suspension of civil servant salaries by the Iraqi government including the region's share of the federal budget have had a negative impact on the financial crisis and the KRG is already hosting around two million internally displaced people and fighting the most brutal terrorist organisation in the world,"

He continued to say that the economic crisis is a golden opportunity and an important lesson to see the default application of serious reforms that they began to apply in the administrative and financial areas.

He added: "We will follow with more transparency on the issue of oil imports for the campaign being waged against the Kurdistan Region."
