The Canadian government plans to install a presence to coordinate ties between Kurdistan and Iraq. This announcement came during a meeting between Hemin Hawrami, Head of KDP’s Foreign Relations Officr with Zeynab Aliyeva, Senior Desk Officer, Global Security Reporting Affairs from Canada.
Mr Hawrami welcomed the delegates and began by highlighting the significant importance of diplomatic ties between the two sides and emphasised cooperation between the Kurdish and Canadian people.
He reflected on the outstanding issues and rising tensions between Erbil and the central government in Baghdad, the economic challenges facing the region, the crisis in Syria, and the military progress where the Peshmerga forces are fighting against the so-called Islamic State terrorist organisation, adding that the Kurdish struggle for national rights of the Kurdish people.
The FRO chief pointed to the role of the Canadian military experts to train peshmerga; thanking the Canadian government and people for their support to the people of Kurdistan in its war with terrorism.
For her part, Ms Aliyeva confirmed the support of Canada's government to the people of Kurdistan and the KRG, emphasising that it will look to establish install an office to help coordinate relations between Kurdistan and Iraq.
