Kurdistan Region delegation meets with head of Iraqi Supreme Islamic Council

Accompanied by his delegation, Kurdistan Region Prime minister Nechirvan Barzani met with Ammar al-Hakim, Head of Iraqi Supreme Islamic Council, on Friday in Baghdad for talks on the issues facing both regions and their relationship.

The two sides exchanged views during their meeting focusing on diplomatic ties between Erbil and Baghdad which has been subject to longstanding tensions over a range of discrepancies including civil servant salaries and oil and gas disputes. They discussed ways of resolving the problems through dialogue and aimed to strengthen relations between Kurdistan and Iraqi parties.

In another aspect of the meeting, the two sides emphasised talks on the war against terrorist organisation Daash, coordination between Erbil and Baghdad and the international coalition's role in the impending liberalisation process of Mosul.

The meeting concluded with discussions of a number of other topics such as the constitutional and legal rights of the Kurdistan Region in the selection of new Iraqi government.
