President of the Kurdistan Region Massoud Barzani received Brett McGurk, the United States Special Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIL, for talks focusing on the current military and security situation looking for ways to move forward in eradicating terrorism.
Mr Barzani and Mr McGurk exchanged views on the current crisis facing the region before moving to discussing preparations for the highly anticipated offensive for the liberation of Iraq's second largest city, Mosul, from the so-called Islamic State.
Mr Barzani has pledged that the Peshmerga would play a “significant” role in the Mosul battle, but also has emphasised there must be agreement before the fighting on how the city – which has a large Kurdish population -- would be administered after liberation.
In another aspect of the meeting, both sides highlighted the ongoing process of liberating the province of Nineveh and post-liberation preparations where they agreed on the aspect for a political agreement between the power plug on the post-editing stage.
