Hemin Hawrami held a meeting with the Russian Consul General to Erbil, Victor Simakov, for talks focusing on bilateral relations between Kurdistan and Russia and areas of regional concern.
During the meeting, the Head of Kurdistan Democratic Party's Foreign Relations Office emphasised his recent trip to Moscow where he participated at the annual congress of the Just Russia party and spoke of mutual interest in developing diplomatic ties with Russia, where both sides are working together to eliminate extremism from the region.
Mr Simakov expressed praise for the Kurdistan region and said his country appreciates the level of progress for enhancing relations. On the subject of internal affairs, he added that Russia is readily available to provide support whether on a humanitarian aspect or militarily.
Mr Hawrami said relations with Russia are prime in countering terrorism from the region. The meeting concluded with both sides discussing the domestic issues facing Kurdistan, such as the economical crisis and disputes between political parties.
