Our party’s position is clear and unequivocal

The Spokesperson of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) issued a statement

Dear citizens,

Regarding the recent developments in Kirkuk, we in the Kurdistan Democratic Party, as always, reaffirm our support for the legitimate rights of all components in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. With full clarity and transparency, we stress that the stability and progress of our country depend on guaranteeing the rightful claims of all ethnic, national, and religious components. We firmly believe that Kirkuk is a symbol and center of coexistence among all its communities.

Our party’s position is clear and unmistakable: we opposed the deals reached at Al-Rashid Hotel without the participation of the political parties that represented the steadfast people of Kirkuk, and which were imposed upon that beloved city. The current situation is the outcome and continuation of those same deals.

We in the Kurdistan Democratic Party have made great sacrifices for Kirkuk, as an integral part of our homeland and for its cherished people. All our efforts and positions have been directed toward preserving its dignity, stability, and prosperity. Therefore, we believe that any decisions or recommendations concerning Kirkuk must be made jointly, with the participation of all political parties and representatives of its communities.
