Kurdistan Region continues exporting oil, says minister

Kurdistan Region continues exporting oil, says minister 12/09/2012 Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has not decided yet to halt exporting oil from its fields despite the ongoing dispute between Baghdad and Erbil over payment of oil companies, said KRG's minister of natural resources. Ashti Hawarami made the statement following the Iraqi media reports that said the KRG has halted oil export from its Khurmal oil field. Hawrami said the Region exports of 100,000 barrel per day and the oil export in Khurmal and other fields have not stopped. The minister said in order to give more time for discussion with Baghdad, KRG has resumed oil exports temporarily for a month until mid September after halting exports in April over the issue of suspended dues of foreign oil companies. The oil companies investing and drilling in Kurdistan oil are concerned about the payment issues between Baghdad and Erbil, added Hawrami. The region wants to end the payment dispute with Baghdad. According to the KRG, Baghdad has to pay $1.5bn to companies making investments in the region. Hawrami said the region's oil flow to Turkey continues and it will be increased in future depending on Turkey's demand.
