Hoshyar Siwaily and the German Consul General Discuss the Situation in the Kurdistan Region and Regional Developments

The Head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s Foreign Relations Office and the German Consul General discussed the situation in the Kurdistan Region and regional developments. Both sides reaffirmed the particular importance of continuing dialogue, coordination, and strengthening bilateral relations between the Kurdistan Region and Germany.

Hoshyar Siwaily, Head of the Foreign Relations Office of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, received His Excellency Albrecht von Wittke, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Kurdistan Region.

The meeting took place in a friendly and constructive atmosphere. At the beginning of the meeting, both sides exchanged views on the overall political situation in the Kurdistan Region, particularly the challenges and obstacles facing the process of forming the new cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government. The discussions also covered political developments in Baghdad, including the process of forming the new cabinet of the Iraqi Federal Government.

In this context, the positive participation of the Kurdistan Democratic Party in supporting and voting for the new cabinet was presented as an important step toward strengthening political stability, constitutional partnership, and cooperation among Iraq’s political forces. The German Consul General stated that the participation of the Kurdistan Democratic Party in Iraq’s political process has an important role and position in supporting the stability and security of the country. He therefore expressed appreciation for the KDP’s position, while also showing understanding of the party’s stance in this regard.

Another part of the meeting was devoted to regional developments, particularly the ongoing tensions and confrontations between the United States and Israel on one side, and the Islamic Republic of Iran on the other. Both sides discussed the negative consequences of these developments for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, including their impact on security, energy supply, oil revenues, public services, salaries, economic stability, and the broader political environment.

The meeting also addressed the continued attacks affecting the Kurdistan Region, despite the fact that the Kurdistan Region has not been, and should not become, part of the regional conflict. It was emphasized that these attacks are a matter of deep concern, especially at a time when the Kurdistan Region has consistently maintained a neutral position and has sought not to be drawn into regional conflicts. The importance of preserving the security and stability of the Region, as well as the safety of citizens and diplomatic missions, was also underlined.

Mr. Siwaily spoke about the consequences of these conflicts, noting that their continuation will have a negative impact on Iraq’s revenues, which will directly affect the livelihood and stability of both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. Therefore, he stated, the Kurdistan Democratic Party believes that better coordination is needed between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Iraqi Federal Government in order to reduce these negative impacts. Both sides have constitutional and legal responsibilities to fulfill so that they can provide services to their people.

The two sides also exchanged views on energy security, demographic challenges, and several other issues of mutual concern. His Excellency Albrecht von Wittke reaffirmed his country’s policy of cooperation with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, aimed at building and expanding shared interests and working together to achieve common objectives. He expressed hope that the political parties in the Kurdistan Region would be able to form a strong government capable of serving the Region and its people.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the particular importance of continuing dialogue, coordination, and strengthening bilateral relations between the Kurdistan Region and Germany.
