Head of the KDP Foreign Relations Office Meets with the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China

Mr. Hoshyar Siwaily, Head of the Foreign Relations Office of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, received Mr. Liu Jun, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in the Kurdistan Region, Mr. Zhang Jianxin, Deputy Consul General, and their accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, both sides discussed the latest political developments in Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, the wider region, and international affairs, as well as matters of mutual interest.

Mr. Siwaily briefed the delegation on the current political situation from the perspective of the Kurdistan Democratic Party. He emphasized that the KDP supports dialogue, constitutional understanding, political partnership, and a responsible agreement among the political parties of the Kurdistan Region in order to form a new government that serves the people and responds to their trust and mandate.

Regarding relations between Erbil and Baghdad, Mr. Siwaily reaffirmed that the Kurdistan Democratic Party is committed to implementing political agreements, respecting the rule of law, and fully implementing Iraq’s permanent constitution. He also stressed that the KDP continues to play a constructive role in Iraq’s political and democratic process in support of stability, development, and prosperity.

On regional tensions, Mr. Siwaily emphasized that the Kurdistan Region has not been, and should not become, part of any conflict or escalation of tensions. He clarified that disputes should be resolved through dialogue, diplomacy, mutual respect, and peaceful means, not through threats or the use of force.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to hear China’s perspective on developments in the Middle East and its diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions and promote international stability. Mr. Liu Jun highlighted China’s approach, which relies on dialogue, long-term strategic understanding, and peaceful diplomacy as key tools for resolving international disputes.

Mr. Siwaily praised China’s growing role as an important political, economic, diplomatic, and technological power. He also expressed appreciation for the positive cooperation between China, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region in the fields of economy, trade, investment, education, culture, infrastructure, technology, and people-to-people exchange.

Within this framework, Mr. Siwaily reaffirmed that the Kurdistan Democratic Party respects the One-China Policy, the will of peoples, and the relevant resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly, including Resolution 2758. He also expressed support for resolving related matters through peaceful dialogue and in accordance with the principle of One China, while taking into consideration the will of peoples.

For his part, Mr. Liu Jun emphasized that China respects the aspirations of peoples for development and stability, and that its foreign relations are built on the principles of respect for state sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries. He noted that the demands, rights, and aspirations of citizens should be addressed through dialogue and understanding, rather than through confrontation. He further stated that sensitive international issues should be resolved with wisdom, mutual respect, dialogue, and peaceful means.

Both sides also emphasized the importance of further strengthening channels of communication and cooperation between Chinese institutions and the Kurdistan Region in areas of mutual interest, including political dialogue, economic cooperation, cultural exchange, education, development, and institutional relations.
