Canada will continue to support Kurdistan

Monday, the 8th of May 2017, Mr. Hoshyar Siwaily, Head of KDP-FRO hosted Ms. Zeynab Aliyeva, Head of Political Section in the Canadian Embassy in Kuwait.

Ms. Aliyeva commended the efforts of the Peshmerga forces in the direct fight against ISIS.

Mr. Siwaily shed light on the current situation in the Kurdistan region and Iraq, and explained that KDP is adamant that they will hold referendum later this year to provide the opportunity to the people of Kurdistan to make a decision about their future. The internal issues with the other political parties in the region was another point of the meeting. Ms. Aliyeva urged the sides to put differences aside and work on settling the issues to further serve the people of Kurdistan.

The recent events in Sinjar and PKK's involvements in the area were discussed during the meeting. Mr. Siwaily expressed the KDP’s concern about the presence of the PKK fighters in Sinjar and other areas of the Kurdistan region, which has added complications to the already volatile situation.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed the desire to find new methods and means to strengthen relations with their respective nations.
