Barzani Grand Mosque Project

The concept for the Barzani Grand Mosque Project was proposed in 2023 by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani. This landmark architectural development is planned to be one of the most distinctive projects of its kind, with several record-setting features, including:

- The world’s largest dome

- The tallest gateway on a global scale

- The largest ceremonial and social hall

A major component of the project will be a dedicated park and forest containing more than one million trees. The development will also include the world’s tallest artificial fountain, reaching a height of 48 meters.

The mosque’s main building is inspired by Kurdish Rashmal and traditional Kurdish architectural motifs. Key features of the project include:

- A main prayer hall

- Expansive mosque gardens capable of accommodating more than 700,000 people

- Ceremonial halls

- The largest clock powered by solar energy

- The world’s largest handcrafted rug

- A minaret and observation tower offering panoramic views of Erbil

- A library and archive for Kurdish manuscripts and religious texts

- A conference hall

- A museum dedicated to the history of Kurdish manuscripts

- A large artificial lake

- A market dedicated to religious items, Kurdish crafts, and traditional goods

The project will be developed on an area of approximately two million square meters of land.

Architecturally, the project reflects the beauty of Kurdish nature, the richness of Kurdish cultural heritage, and the proud history of the Late Mustafa Barzani .
