Delegation from Kurdistan Democratic Party Foreign Relations Office meets Christian Democrat and Flemish(CD&V) Party in Brussels

On a formal invitation by the EU parliament a delegation from Kurdistan Democratic Party Foreign Relations Office visited Brussels on 28-30 June to attend a conference on (The future of the Christians in Iraq). On the first day of the visit and before the commencement of conference, the delegation visited the Belgian parliament in Brussels and met the representatives of Christian Democrat and Flemish (CD&V) Party to strengthen bilateral relations andto brief the party on the current developments in Kurdistan Region.

The KDP-FR delegation was received by Peter Van Rompuy First Vice President of the Flemish parliament and the son of the former President of the European Union, Vincent Van Pefeghem member of the Belgian Parliament, Peter Gijsels Head of the Foreign Relations of CD&V and Ward Kennes member of the Foreign Policy Committee of the Flemish Parliament. During the meeting the Head of the KDP-FR introduced a summary of the most important issues facing Kurdistan Region including the forthcoming referendum.

The CD&V representatives expressed their appreciation to the role the Peshmerga has been playing and to the assistance provided by the KRG and the people of Kurdistan to the IDPs and the refugees who have taken refuge in Kurdistan Region. They also showed their understanding to the legitimate rights of the People of Kurdistan for self-determination and believed that best way is the peaceful way and mutual understanding with Baghdad over this critical issue.

At the end the delegation invited CD&V to visit Kurdistan and send observers to monitor the referendum on 25th September.
