The bilateral relations between the Conservative party and KDP were on the top of the agenda of the meeting During a visit to the United Kingdom, the Head of Kurdistan Democratic Party’s Foreign Relations Office met with Ms. Marta Corti and Ms Evelina Vulpe at the Conservative Party’s Headquarters who were representing the party’s International Office. During the meeting the Head of KDP-FRO outlined the historical, political and legal justifications for the decision by the political leadership of Kurdistan to hold a referendum on 25 September 2017. On the legal and constitutional justification Hoshyar Siwaily referred to the articles which have been ignored by the government. This deliberate violation of the constitution undermined the foundation of partnership and trust between the Kurdistan Region and the government in Baghdad. The illegal stoppage of the budget transfers and lack of support during the ISIS war led to the further deterioration of relations. The representative of the Conservative Party expressed gratitude and appreciation for the courageous role the Peshmerga played and hoped that the outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad would be settled in a peaceful way. At the conclusion of the meeting both sides emphasized on the continuation of contacts and meetings between the two parties and they invited KDP to their annual conference in October.
