At the Headquarters of the liberal Democrats the Head of KDP-FRO met with Mr Robert Woodthorpe Brown MBE and Vice President of Liberal International, Ms. Harriet Shone, Head of International Office, Ms Fionna Tod Parliamentary Advisor for Foreign Affairs, Defence and International Development and Mr Eric Lundva. During the meeting the Head of KDP-FRO outlined the historical, political and legal justifications for the decision by the political leadership of Kurdistan to hold a referendum on 25 September 2017. On the legal and constitutional justification Hoshyar Siwaily referred to the articles which have been violated by the government. This deliberate violation of the constitution undermined the foundation of partnership and trust between the Kurdistan Region and the government in Baghdad. The illegal end to the budget transfers and lack of support during the ISIS war led to the further deterioration of relations.
The representative of the Liberal Democratic Party expressed respect and appreciation to the will and determination of the people of Kurdistan. They promised to discuss the issue in the next meetings of both the Liberal Democrat Party and the Liberal International.
In a separate meeting the Head of KDP’s FRO met with Nabila Sattar, Labour Party’s senior International Office at the party’s Headquarters at Victoria Street, London. The main topic of the meeting was the forthcoming Kurdistan referendum and the local, regional and international implications of the historic step. Mr Hoshyar Siwaily also referred to the historical support to the people of Kurdistan during difficult times. The people of Kurdistan have always appreciated the role and attitude of the current leader Mr Jeremy Corbin. Both sides emphasised on the importance of the continuation of these relations.
The league for Kurdistan Regions represented by Mr Ihsan Qadir participated in the meetings.
