H E President Massoud Barzani Sends Condolences to Families of Victims of Sunday Earthquake

President Masoud Barzani has released an official statement to send condolences to the victims of Sunday earthquake which has taken the lives of hundreds of people across the Kurdistan Region and Kurdish areas of Iran.

According to the latest updates, in Iran’s Kermanshah Province 336 people were killed and over 4,000 others wounded. In the Kurdistan Region at least seven people were killed and more than 540 others injured, officials said.

“I offer condolences to the families of the victims and those whom are affected by yesterdays earthquake. I also wish the injured a speedy recovery,” 

According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the 7.3-magnitude quake was centered 32 kilometers southwest of the city of Halabja in northeastern Iraqi Kurdistan Region at a depth of 33.9 kilometers.

The town of Sarpol-e Zahab, about 15 kilometers from the Iraqi border, was most severely shaken by the quake, with dozens of people killed, the reports said.

There are also huge distractions brought by the quake to civilian properties, especially in the rural areas across the Kurdish regions in Iran and Iraq.
