President Masoud Barzani receives former prime minister of Iraq.

President Massoud Barzani received Mr. Nuri al-Maliki, Head of the State of Law Coalition and former prime minister of Iraq and his accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, they discussed the latest political situation in Iraq and the region, the dangers of terrorism and the challenges facing the political process in Iraq.

At the meeting both sides highlighted the upcoming Iraqi elections, and the two stressed that the only way to lead the country into stability and respect the political process is for the elections to be held on time. President Masoud Barzani and Mr. Maliki emphasized that all party cooperation needs to ensure that free, fair and just elections are held in a safe environment away from interference, and that all parties respect the results and the will of the people.

Discussing regional political development was also part of the meeting, further cooperation and strengthening relations between Erbil and Baghdad is required to bring peace and stability to the country.
