Kurdistan Region Security Council Chancellor Masrour Barzani: Constitution Can't be Implemented by Unconstitutional Means

Chancellor of the Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC) Masrour Barzani met with the US Presidential Envoy to the anti-Islamic State Coalition Brett McGurk in Erbil on Friday to discuss the latest security developments and the escalations between Erbil and Baghdad.

McGurk stated that US refuses all types of military attempts to resolve the issues, reaffirming his country’s efforts to de-escalate the tensions and urge both sides to resolve their disputes through peaceful dialogue on the basis of Iraq’s constitution.

He reiterated that the US supports Kurdistan Regional Government as a constitutional region, hoping that it will remain strong and united and continue to progress in all areas.

McGurk also highlighted the importance of cooperation and the relations between Erbil and Washington.

Barzani also gave prominence to the continued relations between the US and Kurdistan Region.

Regarding the disputes between KRG and Iraq, Barzani noted that Kurdistan Region has always believed in peaceful solutions to the problems in the region and is now willing to begin political talks with Baghdad.

Barzani emphasized on Erbil-Baghdad talks based on the constitution are necessary to de-escalate tensions and settle the ongoing political differences.

Regarding the unconstitutional measures Baghdad has taken against the Kurdistan Region, Chancellor Barzani explained that the constitution can't be implemented by using unconstitutional means.
