Readout of Chancellor Masrour Barzani’s meeting with Russian Ambassador to Iraq

Chancellor Masrour Barzani received today Russian Ambassador to Iraq Maksim Maksimov and discussed the

state of bilateral relations and a range of regional issues. Chancellor Barzani and Ambassador Maksimov

underscored the need to enhance the Kurdistan Region-Russia relationship, including political and economic

relations. Both officials spoke about the deep historic ties that the people of Kurdistan Region and Russia share.

 

On Iraqi parliamentary elections, Chancellor Barzani stressed the importance of a post-election Kurdistani coalition

and unity within Kurdistan Region. He also noted positive developments between KRG and Iraqi Federal

Government in recent months. Turning to ISIL, Chancellor Barzani expressed grave concern over ISIL’s

reemergence in Anbar, Kirkuk and Mosul and the displacement of Kurdish families in and around Kirkuk
