Fadhil Mirani Secretary of Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Political Bureau in an interview with the Voice of America

Fadhil Mirani states that KDP demanded that the election for the Parliament to be held in April, but no single political party was supportive. (We defy if even one party was with us to hold the election, and of course a country’s election cannot be conducted by one party. He added that (Each side gets what it deserves in an election but If these parties intend to exclude us from the process, they will not succeed. Nobody sacrifices his daughter for the sake of other people’s son)

Fadhil Mirani, in the second part of his interview with the Voice of America said ( We in the KDP were the only party called for holding the election on time but no political party was ready to take part, providing different pretexts for their refusal. The PM called on all the parties to convene and address the political situation, but some of the parties who organize demonstrations announced that they were not ready to take part in such a meeting unless the current government resigned and a transitional government formed. We told them unless there is an election; this government would stay for one hundred years, joining us to resolve all the issues or not is up to you)   

The new Parliament will make a decision on the post of the Region’s President

Regarding the election for the President of the Region, Fadhil Mirani said (we have left this issue to the next Parliament and to the committee for preparing the Regions constitution. The powers of the President and the mechanisms of his election will be decided by the constitutional committee. We have no problem with whoever becomes a candidate for the post)

In the first part of his interview with the VOA, Mr Mirani had shed light on the demonstrations held in Erbil, Slemani and Duhok and had indicated that the core organizers of the demonstrations (are some political parties who are trying to ruin any suitable ground for holding the election and they try to postpone the election)

In regard to the formation of new parties, lists and entities and their impact on the votes of the other sides, Fadhil Mirani said (we are with free opinion and pluralism and as KDP we have neither apprehension nor sensitivity to the formation of new parties and new lists. The new parties and lists might take some votes from this side or the other, but we as KDP have our own loyal voters. We trust our supporters and the previous elections have proved their trustworthy, but at end the final verdict is the people’s verdict not this party or the other).  

The Secretary of the Political Bauru also said ( I am a law person, I do not say that these new parties and lists have no impact on the outcome of the election at all, but their impact on KDP is far less than the other parties. Elections are like football, they both contain positive and negative surprises and that is why I cannot predict the outcome of the upcoming election. As KDP we have no hard feelings towards Dr Brham nor Shaswar and anybody else.) On the current situation in Kurdistan Region and evaluations about the future developments, Mr Mirani said (If common sense does not prevail nobody will gain and all of us will lose out, but if we deal with the issues consciously, we all, most importantly our people, will benefit)

In response to a question on whether KDP will come up with any initiative to reconvene meetings between the political parties, . If these parties intend to exclude us from the process, they will not succeed. Mr Mirani also said (the PM urged all the parties to get together and come up with a solution to the political situation, but some of the parties who are demonstrating now refused to take part and demanded the resignation of the current government and the establishment of a transitional one. We told them the only way to replace the current government is through election and the it will stay even if you stay out of it for one hundred years). Mr Mirani clarified KDP’s position on the issue of the future election for the post of Region’s President and said (we have left this issue to the next Parliament and the constitutional committee. We have left deliberations on the Presidents power and his election procedure to the constitutional committee. We have no problem with who will become a candidate for the post).
