President Barzani Receives Mr. Brett McGurk

President Masoud Barzani received a United States government delegation headed by Mr. Brett McGurk, the Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

The meeting commenced with Mr. McGurk congratulating President Barzani for the successful elections for the Iraqi Council of Representatives last Saturday. He also made reference to President Barzani's crucial role in Iraq, Kurdistan and the Middle East region. Mr. McGurk also stated that the bilateral relations between the United States and the Kurdistan Region shall continue and only be widened and strengthened.

 

The two sides also spoke of the latest results of last Saturday's elections for the Iraqi Council of Representatives and the role the Kurdistan Region will play in the formation of the new government. Mr. McGurk stressed on the importance of an active participation of the Kurdistan Region in the negotiations to form the new Iraqi government as that has proved to be an essential part of Iraq's stability and prosperity.
