Kurdistan Democratic Party releases a Statement following the disputes over the result of the election for Iraq Council of Representatives.

Subsequent to the official announcement of the results of the Iraqi election for the Council of Representatives, concerns and doubts on the results and the conduct of the Independence high Electoral Commission expressed by some political entities.

We, as Kurdistan Democratic Party expressed our concerns on the voting results and the conduct of the Independence High Electoral Commission and called upon the relevant authorities to deal with these concerns according to the existing laws. Credibility of the results is widely debated and has become a focus of media attention. It will create rifts and divisions among the public. Each political entity gives different interpretations and evaluations. We strongly believe that legitimacy and stability need to be preserved and the distrust between the parties who have expressed suspicions about the results must be dealt with.

Any decision in this regard must be within the framework of the existing laws. Kurdistan Democratic Party supports a manual recounting of the votes to end the crisis and provide a solution that satisfies all the parties. We reject any unilateral decision that creates further mistrust among the Iraqis.

The decision by the Council of Representatives that calls for the invalidation of the election results in Kurdistan Region and Kirkuk is illegal and it is driven by a political agenda. In order to put an end to this and prevent further mistrust and instability, Kurdistan Democratic Party is ready to cooperate and provide all the necessary support within the context of the constitution and the existing laws.
