Joint views of Kurdistan Democratic Party and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan on the new political alliance in Iraq

In these sensitive and complex circumstances which Iraq is undergoing, the undesirable politics has placed the election process and resolving the associated problems in a dangerous spiral.

We, in the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), dissociated ourselves and the people of Kurdistan from these dangers and problems in Kurdistan and Iraq. We made a great effort to be part of the solution in accordance with the Constitution and the customs and laws of the elections. To that end, the joint delegation of the parties, in consultation with each other, visited all Iraqi political forces and parties and expressed our positions

Tonight, with the sincere efforts and in order to save the country from the political crisis, an Alliance between (Saairun and Al Fatah) has been announced.

The political Bureaus of (KDP) and (PUK) consider the move as positive and believe it is a political roadmap for a good alliance to overcome the complex political crisis. Undoubtedly, (KDP) and (PUK) will discuss their common positions and will work to form a joint delegation as soon as possible to commence dialogue and discussions.

At the same time, we hope that all Kurdistan and Iraqi political forces and parties will be able to focus on the common positive points rather on the negative points, so that together we can form a consensual national government to carry out common tasks and maintain national unity.
