Statement by the Political Bureau of the Kurdistan Democratic Party

Today, Iraq is facing difficult circumstances, especially after the announcement of the preliminary results of the elections and the relevant decisions made by the House of Representatives, after some participants and political entities were not satisfied with the result of the 12th may elections. With their Not well thought out decision they took the whole process towards danger, without taking into account the Constitution and laws.

We as Kurdistan Democratic Party, and although we do not have a representative in the Iraqi High Electoral Commission, but from the sense of responsibility and after the end of the process and the announcement of the preliminary results, we expressed our concern in a statement and we considered it better to dispel doubts and maintain stability, re-counting and manual counting as necessary, or re-counting and manual counting throughout Iraq and Kurdistan if possible, and we continue to have the same opinion.

The Presidency of the Iraqi Council of Representatives and with the support of some people and political parties brought up a wave of rejection and protest and issued a number of unconstitutional resolutions and laws that put the entire political process in Iraq to a freeze and complexity.

The cancellation or non-registration of the votes of citizens must be in accordance with the constitutional and legal contexts, after investigation, manual counting of the votes, if there were irregularities found or fraud in the station, on that base any station must be canceled, not the entire of the particular votes, the desire and willingness of the citizens and other political party must be considered.

It is a constitutional right of all the people of Kurdistan and its religious and ethnic components, to participate in voting and to choose their representatives freely, and this right cannot be denied. The forces of the Peshmahrga and the security forces are those heroic forces that defended Kurdistan and Iraq and the free world with all the courage and the big sacrifices they mad to provide security and shelter to all the citizens regardless of the ethnic and religious background.   Instead of rewarding and appreciation, the House of Representatives made an unfair decision to cancel their votes! this law and the decision is unconstitutional and illegal step and cannot be accepted, we are confident that the loyal people of Kurdistan and Iraq reject such decisions and laws.

The Kurdistan Democratic Party considers the unconstitutional and illegal steps taken by the Iraqi Council of Representatives against the willingness of the Iraqi people in general and against the wish of the people of Kurdistan in particular, and considers it a dangerous beginning towards further complication, escalation and instability in the country. 

As for the lack of calculation of voting of our Yazidi brothers and sisters and the displaced people, and the vote of those live abroad, they must be dealt with in accordance to constitutional and legal contexts and not according to the wish, demand and interest of some people and political parties. The entire process must be within the frame of constitution and existing laws.

In this regard, the Kurdistan Democratic Party believes that it is necessary to review these illegal and unconstitutional steps as soon as possible and abolish them according to the Constitution. Otherwise, the Kurdistan Democratic Party and many other parties concerned with the stability and dealing with complexities will have their stance.

 

the Kurdistan Democratic Party considers such decisions, laws and steps taken by the House of Representatives against the wish and willingness of the Iraqi people in general and the people of Kurdistan in particular is unconstitutional and illegal and considers it as a dangerous beginning towards the complexity and instability. We therefore believe that it is necessary to review these moves, decisions and laws as soon as possible and cancel them in accordance with the Constitution and the interest of Iraqi people. In contrast, if this decision is applied, the Kurdistan Democratic Party and many other parties which worry about the stability of the country and care to resolving and address the complex of the situation, will have their own position, and here we call on all relevant forces inside and outside Iraq, to ​​expedite the use of all their potentials and efforts towards correcting and maintaining security and stability.
