The Leadership Council of the Kurdistan Democratic Party held a meeting in Salahadeen Resort, Erbil Governorate on July 7, under the supervision of President Masoud Barzani, and discussed the party’s internal issues, the KDP’s Electoral Establishment report on the preparations for the Kurdistan Regional elections, the current situation in Iraq, including Preparations for the formation of the new Iraqi government and relations between the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the political parties in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. The spokesman for the Kurdistan Democratic Party Mahmud Mohammed, said at a press conference after the meeting that a special committee has been set up to prepare a program with other political blocs to form the future Iraqi government, based on the principles of partnership and understanding with other Kurdistan and Iraqi parties. He said the remaining Kurdish parties have yet to reach an agreement with the two main parties, the Kurdistan Democrat Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, on a major program to discuss the rights of the Kurds with Baghdad. The KDP spokesman also said that there should be an understanding about the sovereign positions in Iraq, including the premiership and the presidency, adding that it was not necessary to continuously allocate the position of the President of the Republic to a specific party, because the Kurdistan Democratic Party had the highest votes among the Kurdistan parties in the elections held in May. He stressed that the Kurdistan Democratic Party believes that the partnership is the most important element of understanding with other political blocs, noting that "in the absence of understanding, solutions cannot be devised for the future of the political process in Iraq”. The KDP Spokesman stated that if the country is administered and governed through nationalistic, religious or sectarian perspectives, Iraq will not be able to move forward and progress, stressing the need to end the policy of exclusion that was followed by some political parties.
